As the 2003-2004 school year drew to a close, and staff and students started coming to terms with the fact that this would be the last year for the Stratford Campus, many former students, teachers, and friends of Nancy Campbell Collegiate gathered to celebrate an important event. Nancy Campbell Collegiate Institute celebrated its tenth anniversary on the June 18th weekend, with lots of great food, entertainment, and reminiscing.
On Friday evening, Grad Performance was held in the Stratford City Hall auditorium with a record-breaking crowd in attendance. Students performed songs, skits, and dance numbers that kept the crowd entertained for over 2 hours. Notable performances were offered up by Canadian Idol finalist and graduate, Ayla Rodney-Simard, and the NCCI staff singing Lean on Me.
On Saturday morning, students gathered at the beautiful Arden Park Hotel for a delicious brunch. Tahirih Naylor, the first graduate of the school, gave a talk in which she discussed the unique benefits of the kind of education offered at NCCI. Later in the day students had an opportunity to mingle and tour the Stratford Campus, where they viewed photo displays that gave a wonderful pictorial representation of the first ten years at NCCI.
Saturday evening featured the graduation ceremony and dinner held in the Grand Ballroom of the Arden Park Hotel. The keynote speaker, Dr. William Hatcher, spoke passionately of the importance of moral education. The dinner and ceremony were followed by a dance.
The celebration moved to the new campus in London on Sunday, with a delicious catered barbeque and excellent entertainment provided by formers students and a few staff members. Dozens attended a less formal late afternoon barbeque and partied until evening under clear blue skies. We look forward to doing it all again in 2014.
